Case: misplaced guide pins
The repair of a damaged windmill takes less time than expected
Challenge
During the construction of an offshore wind farm, a monopile as well as a transition piece are damaged due to misplaced guide pins.
Solution
Inspecto Visio maps out the damage and draws up a repair plan. Being aware that the flange cannot be welded, we decide – in consultation with the designer – to enlarge and fill the damaged hole, thus allowing the normal bolt to be fitted.
Result
Though a repair time of one and a half weeks is anticipated by the client, the proposed repairs are completed within just three days. As a result, the windmill is operational within the timeframe set by the subsidy provider.
Take away
To prevent damage to monopiles and transition pieces, we advise our client to research different ways to secure the guide pins.
